Introducing the CARE Blog: A Space for Youth-Led Cancer Education
Welcome to the official blog of CARE (Cancer Awareness, Research, and Education)!
We’re a student-led nonprofit built on one simple belief: young people can make a difference in the fight against cancer. From running local awareness campaigns to fundraising for national organizations like the American Cancer Society, CARE members are driven by curiosity, compassion, and the desire to make a difference in their communities.
Now, we are excited to launch this new blog, which we want to be a space where students can write about important topics in cancer biology, treatment, prevention, and patient support.
Why Start a Blog?
As students, we’re constantly learning. But we also know how powerful it can be to share that learning with others. It is important take what we’ve read, heard, or researched and turn it into something that educates and empowers someone else.
This blog is a new way of doing just that.
Here, you'll find articles written by high school students who care deeply about the science and stories behind cancer. We’ll be covering a wide range of topics from the latest research breakthroughs to conversations around mental health, equity in healthcare, and more.
Our goal isn’t to sound like experts (we’re still students, after all), but rather to make complex topics more understandable and show how youth can take part in spreading awareness. Whether you're someone personally impacted by cancer or just interested in learning more, we hope this space gives you something to think about and something to share.
Who We Are
CARE was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with the goal of spreading cancer awareness, supporting organizations fighting cancer, and making cancer education more accessible, especially for youth. Since then, we’ve grown into a global network of high schoolers committed to education, outreach, and advocacy.
With dozens of chapters, over $30,000 raised through events, and hundreds of members, CARE empowers students to take the lead, whether that’s by teaching others, organizing fundraisers, speaking at community events, or writing for this very blog.
Our journalism team will work hard in creating posts and supporting our new blog, and we can't wait for people to see what they can do!
